| Engine 105 responded to a reported hazardous condition on Main Street involving a large tree obstructing the roadway with downed power lines. Upon arrival, crews found the tree partially blocking the roadway and power lines lying across the affected area, creating a significant safety hazard. Engine 105 personnel immediately established traffic control, securing Main Street from the westbound side, while Brush 10 shut down traffic from the eastbound side to ensure the safety of motorists and responders. Lieutenant 10, M. Colona, established Main Street Command and coordinated the response. Due to the downed power lines, ANEC and Verizon were requested to respond, and VDOT was contacted to assist with the removal of the large tree. Fire department units remained on scene for an extended period while utilities and roadway hazards were safely addressed. Once the tree was removed from the roadway and the scene was secured, Main Street Command was terminated. Engine 105 and Brush 10 then cleared the scene and returned to service. The department reminds the public to use caution around downed trees and power lines and to report hazardous conditions promptly to 911. |
