June 17, 2022 – Mutual Aid Residential Structure Fire, Savageville Road, Onancock
At approximately 7:45 p.m. on June 17, 2022, Accomack County stations 9 (Onancock), 10 (Melfa), 8 (Tasley), 11 (Wachapreague), and 12 (Painter) were dispatched for a reported working residential structure fire located at 26346 Savageville Road in Onancock. Initial reports indicated smoke and flames visible from the structure.
Upon arrival, Sprint 2 confirmed a working fire. Truck 108 arrived shortly thereafter, deploying two 3-inch supply lines—one to supply Engine 95 and the other designated for tanker operations. Fire crews from multiple departments worked diligently for several hours to bring the blaze under control.
While units were actively engaged in suppression efforts at this incident, a second working fire was reported just down the street, prompting the dispatch of a second alarm. Additional resources from Stations 7 (Parksley), 6 (Bloxom), 4 (Atlantic), 13 (Exmore), 16 (Nassawadox), and 17 (Eastville) were requested to assist.
Firefighting operations at both scenes continued into the early morning hours, with units remaining on scene until approximately 12:30 a.m. before being released.
Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company extends its appreciation to all responding departments for their teamwork, professionalism, and dedication during this large-scale mutual aid operation.
