πŸ”₯ Virginia Burn Ban in Effect: February 15 – April 30

The Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, Inc. would like to remind all residents that the Commonwealth of Virginia’s annual burn ban is now in effect from February 15 through April 30, as mandated by the Virginia Department of Forestry. This seasonal restriction is critical in reducing the risk of wildfires during a time when dry vegetation, low humidity, and increased wind conditions make fires more likely to spread rapidly.

🚫 Burn Ban Requirements and Restrictions

During this period, the following regulations apply:
β€’ No open-air burning is permitted before 4:00 PM.
β€’ All fires must be attended at all times by a responsible person.
β€’ No additional fuel may be added to any fire after midnight.
β€’ Violations of this burn ban may result in fines up to $500.

These restrictions apply to all types of open-air burning, including:
β€’ Brush piles
β€’ Campfires
β€’ Warming fires
β€’ Burning of household debris or trash
β€’ Burning of stumps or yard waste

🌲 Why This Burn Ban Matters

Spring wildfire season presents significant risks due to dry ground cover, dormant vegetation, and unpredictable wind patterns. Even small, unattended fires can quickly escalate and threaten homes, property, and lives. These regulations are designed to protect our community, our firefighters, and our natural resources.

πŸš’ Our Commitment to Your Safety

The members of Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company remain ready to respond at all times to protect the citizens of Melfa and surrounding communities. However, prevention is the most effective tool we have in reducing fire-related emergencies.

We strongly encourage all residents to follow these guidelines and exercise caution when conducting any outdoor burning after the permitted hours.
