| On 4/21/2026 units from Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company responded to a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment on northbound Route 13. Engine 105 Made the Response. Upon arrival, AC 10 (RJ Nottingham) established command and advised that a single vehicle was located in a ditch. After further assessment, it was determined there was no entrapment, however one male occupant was unable to exit the vehicle due to injuries. Engine 105 crews quickly established traffic control in the #2 lane of northbound Route 13 while working alongside EMS personnel. Virginia State Police (VSP) were already on scene conducting their investigation. Fire and EMS crews worked together to safely remove the patient from the passenger seat using a backboard. The patient was then transferred to the ambulance and transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. A second occupant of the vehicle declined medical treatment on scene. Units remained on location until the vehicle was safely removed from the ditch and the roadway was cleared. Command was then terminated, and all units returned to service. ⚠️ Reminder to all motorists: Please slow down and move over for emergency vehicles operating on the roadway. Your safety—and ours—depends on it. We would like to thank all assisting agencies for their cooperation and professionalism on this incident. |
