| On August 14, 2026, Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue – Station 10 was requested to assist the Virginia Department of Forestry with aerial firefighting operations at the Accomack County Airport. Tanker 108 (T108) responded to the airport and established a continuous water-supply operation utilizing a nearby fire hydrant. Station 10 personnel supported the operation by supplying water to an aircraft conducting water drops in support of ongoing firefighting efforts. Throughout the operation, T108 filled the aircraft approximately 24 times, supplying an estimated 15,000 gallons of water for aerial water-drop operations. Operations such as this demonstrate the importance of cooperation between local fire departments and our state partners. Station 10 is proud to support the Virginia Department of Forestry and provide the personnel, apparatus, and water-supply capabilities needed to protect our communities and natural resources. We extend our appreciation to all personnel involved for their teamwork and dedication to keeping the Eastern Shore of Virginia safe. |
