On the afternoon of December 27th 1994 The Melfa Vol. Fire Company suffered a loss of one of our members in a tragic motor vehicle accident. Chief Engineer Steven Colona passed away from injuries he suffered when the tanker truck he was driving to a reported Chicken house fire ran off Airport Road in Melfa. The call turned out to be a false alarm, and was a controlled burn. Steven joined as volunteer the day he turned 16, had recently completed shock trauma emergency medical technician training and was Chief Engineer for Melfa, He was also a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Eastern Shore of Virginia 9-1-1 Center. Steven was such a great inspiration to the people he was around. He always had the biggest smile on his face. Steven will forever be remembered in our hearts and will never be forgotten.
