Letter of Appreciation – Snow Storm Response

By Deputy Chief Randy Green
February 25, 2026

On behalf of the officers and members of Melfa Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, Inc., We would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your outstanding performance and unwavering dedication during the recent snow storm that impacted Accomack County and the Eastern Shore.
Severe winter weather presents unique operational challenges for emergency responders. Snow-covered roadways, reduced visibility, hazardous travel conditions, increased call volume, and infrastructure concerns require coordination, professionalism, and composure at every level of the emergency response system. Throughout this event, your dispatchers and communications personnel demonstrated exceptional skill, calmness, and efficiency under pressure.
Your team ensured timely dispatching of fire, EMS, and law enforcement units despite difficult travel conditions and high call demand. The clarity of radio traffic, accuracy of information, and proactive communication significantly enhanced responder safety and operational effectiveness. The coordination between agencies and the continuous monitoring of evolving conditions allowed field personnel to focus on patient care, fire suppression, and public safety with confidence.
Behind every successful response is a dedicated communications professional who answers the call for help—often serving as the first point of contact for citizens in distress. During this storm, your team provided reassurance to callers while simultaneously managing resources and maintaining situational awareness countywide. Your professionalism directly contributed to the safety of our community and to the safety of the responders operating in challenging winter conditions.
Please extend our appreciation to every dispatcher, supervisor, and support staff member who worked extended shifts and sacrificed time with their families to ensure uninterrupted emergency communications coverage. Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and we are proud to work alongside such a highly capable and dedicated communications center.
Thank you for your continued partnership, professionalism, and service to the citizens of the Eastern Shore.
