Logging Truck Roll Over - Melfa

By Deputy Chief Randy Green
November 11, 2025

Brush 10 and Medic 100 were dispatched to the location listed for a motor vehicle accident involving a single tree-hauling semi-truck. Upon arrival, crews encountered a large commercial truck on its side, blocking the travel lane of the roadway. All occupants had self-extricated prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Incident Command was established by 10-43 (S. Baines), who conducted an initial scene size-up and confirmed the need for additional resources to secure the roadway and maintain responder safety. Station 11 (Wachapreague) was requested to respond with Engine 11-5 to provide full road closure of Airport Road due to the vehicle’s position and debris spread.

Medical personnel from Medic 100 and Medic 11-1 evaluated 2 individuals who were involved in the incident. Both were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. During this time, fire and rescue crews ensured there were no hazardous leaks or fire hazards associated with the overturned vehicle.
VDOT was requested to assist with extended traffic control and roadway management, as the incident required prolonged cleanup and vehicle recovery operations. The Virginia State Police were on scene conducting the official crash investigation and coordinating with recovery companies.

Crews remained on scene for an extended duration to maintain a safe operating environment while the vehicle was uprighted and removed. Once the roadway was cleared and the scene was deemed safe to turn over to transportation and law enforcement officials, Incident Command was terminated and all Station 10 units returned to service.
We thank Wachapreague Volunteer Fire Company, VDOT, Virginia State Police, and all responding personnel for their coordinated efforts and professionalism throughout this incident.
